On May 22, 2025, WBASNY proudly announced that the “Women in Law” program won the 2025 National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations (“NCWBA”) Public Service Award. The NCWBA Public Service Award is given to bar associations to recognize outstanding and unique public service projects. Congratulations to WBASNY, to the Adirondack Women's Association and all of our WBASNY Sister Chapters.
The Program started with the Adirondack Women’s Bar Association. Katrin E. Falco (President 2023-2024) envisioned the establishment of an annual program to introduce young women to the field of law and to mentor and educate them about the varied and vast careers available to them in the legal field. Area high school students are invited to a local Courthouse to hear from a panel of dynamic, professional women in the legal community, including esteemed Justices, Law Clerks, Attorneys, Mediators, Stenographers, Legislators, and Court Officers. The AWBA proudly hosted the first l Women in Law Program (2024) through the efforts of AWBA Board Members Kate Falco and Douglas Gerhardt, in coordination with the Office of Court Administration (4 Jud. District).
The Program was so successful that WBASNY sought to implement it throughout the State. Under the auspices of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, Kate and Doug (WBASNY Social Action Committee Co-Chairs) worked with the regional schools, various Court Administrators, and the Regional WBASNY Chapters throughout the State. In March, 2025, the Regional Chapters of WBASNY hosted 17 Women in Law programs across the State - from Albany to Buffalo and Plattsburgh to the Five Boroughs. The AWBA ambitiously held two programs (Clinton County and Warren County). Nearly 1,000 students were in attendance collectively hearing from approximately 170 panelists from across the legal profession. Congratulations to our very own AWBA for being the birthplace of the Nationally recognized Women in Law Program. Thank you to WBASNY for dreaming bigger to make Women in Law a Statewide Initiative!
